Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum 20 years of age by the date of the written examination and must be 21 years of age by the date of hire.​
   

• Applicants must be under 35 years of age at the date of the written examination 
   

• U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S. 
   

• High School Diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following:
  
  - Minimum sixty college semester hours from an accredited institution by the application deadline
  - Or two years of active military service with an honorable discharge by the application deadline date.

• Possess a valid Driver's License
   

• Proof of completion of the Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) test with an attainment date less than six months (twelve months for Laterals) prior to the date of the written examination
   

• Complete a ride along with a Village of Skokie Police Officer
   

• Correctable vision to 20/20 and the ability to distinguish colors
   

• No residency requirement
   

• Enter into an "Authorization for Release of Personal Information Agreement," an "Abstinence from Tobacco Products Agreement"
   

• Must have the ability to comprehend the English Language (written and spoken)
   

• Must possess or be eligible to possess before hire, a valid FOID card
   

• Visible tattoos are now permitted with some restrictions
