Lateral Officers

U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following:
- Minimum sixty college semester hours from an accredited institution by the application deadline
- Or two years of active military service with an honorable discharge by the application deadline date.
A full-time Police Officer in good standing with 2 or more years of service, and no break in service of 6 months or more.

Laterals may be hired at a higher pay (up to $116,921) based on Law Enforcement service

Possess a valid Driver's License
Proof of completion of the Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) test with an attainment date less than twelve months
Complete a ride along with a Village of Skokie Police Officer
Correctable vision to 20/20 and the ability to distinguish colors

Enter into an "Authorization for Release of Personal Information Agreement," an "Abstinence from Tobacco Products Agreement"
Must have the ability to comprehend the English Language (written and spoken)
Must possess or be eligible to possess before hire, a valid FOID card
